What online Programs are available?
West Coast University’s Online division offers both Associate and Bachelor level degrees in the Healthcare industry. Student that have earned their Associate Degree in Nursing can select the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) program. Are these Programs Accredited?

The Accrediting Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accreditation agency under the provisions of Chapter 33, U.S. Code, and subsequent legislation.

Is Financial Aid available?
West Coast University (WCU) offers you several options for payment of tuition, including Federal Loans and Grants and Private Loans. We encourage you to apply for financial assistance if you are unable to meet educational costs on your own. Before starting school, each student is presented with a Student Financing Plan that highlights the financial aid eligibility and payment options.

Is someone available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Our Help Desk answers technical questions a student may ask during their studies. Students may call or email the Help Desk 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to speak with a member of the technical support staff at any time of day.

What are the advantages of taking a course online?
There are many advantages to online learning, including being able to learn in a way that meets different learning styles and needs.

The most obvious advantage is flexibility—you can work on your online course in the morning or at night and on the weekends. Online courses fit in well if you are working, are a parent, etc.

You don’t have to drive to school and deal with traffic or parking!

What challenges might I face in an online course?
You should be comfortable with using the computer so you can work efficiently on the computer and online.

You should feel comfortable with written communication enjoy typing and expressing yourself in writing. Most importantly, you must be self-motivated and disciplined! If you don’t keep yourself on track and on-target, it can be easy to fall behind in your coursework. Set time aside for “class-time”—it may even be helpful to make a schedule of days and times you will spend on your online course, so you are sure to spend time on your class.

Is attendance taken?
Yes. West Coast University’s online courses maintain the university’s commitment to quality and standards. Attendance is taken and recorded weekly within the online courses. Students must submit their academic course work each week to be considered present. We strongly believe there is a direct correlation to students that maintain excellent attendance and the academic success of those students.

How is attendance different than participation?
Attendance only monitors login time and minimal threaded discussion presence. Active Participation is an important facet of student learning and will be mostly based on your responses (depth and amount of responses, on the daily guidelines given to you by your instructor) to Weekly Threaded Discussions.

Do I take tests online?
Yes! All assignments and tests are designed to be taken online.

Do I have to be anywhere at a certain time or day?
No. While all WCU online courses have Weekly due dates and deadlines for assignments, you do not have to be online at a certain time. Again, this is one of the main advantages of online delivery—the flexibility!

How do I communicate with my instructor?
Most of your communications with your instructor will be in the online class, using threaded discussions. Each online course has a “Virtual Office” discussion area that allows you to post questions and comments. Your instructor monitors this area and responds to questions within one business day or less.

You may also email your instructor.

Instructors will hold live “office hours,” via the Chat room as well—see the Syllabus for times and days.

You will get personalized feedback through the online Gradebook and will be able to monitor your progress throughout the course.

How do I get help?
WCU Online offers a 24/7 helpdesk, so should you have the need for technical help, you can call or email any time, day or night!

A context-sensitive User Guide is also provided in each online course.
